Push to arm police with body cameras ‘euphemism’ for fatter budgets, says expert

Apart from privacy concerns related to the use of body cameras, some experts worry that a push to outfit RCMP officers with them 'becomes an excuse for spending more money on police.'
Independent Senator Wanda Thomas Bernard and Liberal MP Greg Fergus were supportive of equipping police with body cameras, while also saying reallocating funds from the budgets of police services should be among the reforms considered.
The pandemic has added urgency to calls to address widespread racial inequities with large-scale reforms, say experts and parliamentarians, but some are split on whether Ottawa’s commitments so far are transformative enough.
