The separatists' clear alternative and only real hope is Duceppe–the sole figure around whom the shattered party might be willing to unite. That said, Duceppe's 'fit' with the PQ will hardly be perfect.

WASHINGTON, D.C.–The electoral catastrophe for the Parti Québécois stemming from the March 26 Quebec provincial election has put the separatist ship on the rocks. The sooner-or-later obligatory step to refloat the vessel will be to throw the captain overboard.
