‘Mind-boggling’ further job cuts coming to CRA, unions say as departmental plan touts AI advancements

The Canada Revenue Agency says it will expand the use of artificial intelligence in detecting fraud and ensuring compliance, but unions representing affected workers say job cuts will hinder efforts to go after tax cheats.
Finance and National Revenue Minister François-Philippe Champagne said the CRA's latest departmental plan builds on the 100-day plan the agency embarked on in late 2025.

Two unions representing workers at the Canada Revenue Agency say the latest round of job cuts will affect hundreds of roles, while the agency’s departmental plan forecasts further reductions in years to come, and an increased reliance on artificial intelligence tools.
