Liberal slump could be an opportunity for NDP, but polarized campaigns historically favour the Grits, say observers

In the latest Abacus Data survey, one in five NDP supporters said they had voted Liberal in the last election. But one in 10 past NDP voters said they would now cast a ballot for the Conservatives.
The federal NDP, led by Jagmeet Singh, has been stuck in the high teens or low twenties in most public opinion polls for much of the last two years.

As the Liberals slump and Conservatives soar across most public opinion polls, one reason the NDP’s numbers are stagnant is because the party is bleeding voters to the Tories, even as it picks up some disaffected Liberals, says pollster David Coletto.
