Australia grapples with reconciliation in bitter referendum debate
The next chapter in settler Australia’s relationship with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples will be written on Oct. 14 during a referendum to establish an Indigenous 'Voice' to Parliament in the Constitution.

OTTAWA—As Canada marks the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation on Sept. 30, my home country of Australia is contemplating its own past and future with Indigenous Peoples.
