Cabinet support for Uyghur resettlement motion a ‘solemn promise’ to implement plan, says sponsor

The Liberal cabinet's Feb. 1 support of M-62 is the first time it has voted in recognition of the plight of the Uyghurs.
Liberal MP Sameer Zuberi's private member's motion passed unanimously 322-0 on Feb. 1, calling on the government to resettle 10,000 Uyghur and other Turkic Muslims by 2026.

After Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his cabinet voted in favour of a non-binding motion to resettle Uyghurs in Canada, the motion’s sponsor is calling on the government to support a “solemn promise” to implement the initiative.
