Jim Carr’s death a reminder to show people respect and appreciation while they’re alive, particularly in Parliament

Parliamentarians would do well to take the holiday break to reflect on the kind of place they want to return to, and whether they want to be remembered as federal legislators who reached across the aisle for the betterment of the country, or tore down their opponents in an attempt to climb the ladder of power.

Jim Carr, the former cabinet minister and Winnipeg MP, died on Dec. 12 at age 71, after having been diagnosed with the blood cancer multiple myeloma and suffering kidney failure in 2019.
