‘High expectations’ for upcoming National Reconciliation Council, but amendments on governance needed first, say MPs across party lines

The chair of the governing circle for the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation says that organization would like to play a larger role in the process of shaping the council, which was called for by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

There are “high expectations” and feelings of “urgency” around creating a National Council for Reconciliation, says NDP MP Lori Idlout, but, like other Liberal and opposition MPs studying the bill to create the council, she says key amendments are needed.
