Expand beyond unreliable solar and wind energy to service the North, says Tory Senator

Transitioning northern communities off of diesel power may involve looking at small modular reactors, hydrogen, or geothermal energy as alternatives, according to current and former government representatives for Nunavut and the Northwest Territories.
Northern Affairs Minister Dan Vandal announced an $88,000 investment by the federal government's Northern Responsible Energy Approach for Community Heat and Electricity (REACHE) program to Nihtat Energy Limited on Feb. 9. The REACHE program is intended to help reduce reliance for northern communities on diesel fuel.
