‘Talent is the jet fuel to get companies to grow and scale’: attracting foreign talent and IP protection critical for Canada’s innovation economy, says CCI

Canada will experience a demand for an additional 250,000 workers in the information and computer technology sector by 2025, which means access to foreign talent is critical for the innovation economy, according to the executive director for the Council of Canadian Innovators.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, pictured Sept. 9, 2021, and the Liberals included several promised investments related to innovation in the budget released on April 19. This includes $60-million over two years to support the Innovation Superclusters Initiative. The Liberal government will have 'a lot on their plate' in the upcoming parliamentary session when it comes to resolving the talent crunch facing many Canadian companies.
