On the road to a better control of the diabetes epidemic in Canada

Awareness of health issues has been front-page news for more than a year. We now must seize the opportunity to foster lifestyle changes to turn the tide of diabetes in Canada.
On June 21, 2021, the Senate adopted unanimously Bill C-237 for a National Framework on Diabetes. My expertise with diabetic foot in senior health care had motivated me to sponsor Liberal MP Sonia Sidhu’s, pictured, bill. Since the beginning of the pandemic, studies have shown that diabetes is one of the major comorbidities associated with the development of severe COVID-19-related adverse outcomes and mortality. A new hypothesis is linking COVID-19 to the development of diabetes.
