How the 43rd Parliament has changed Canada’s legal landscape

The Liberals were able to pass just a handful of bills focused beyond the COVID-19 pandemic, but MPs outside of cabinet left their own mark on Canadian law. 
Conservative MP Kevin Waugh, left, sponsored a bill that will legalize single-event sports betting in Canada. Justice Minister David Lametti sponsored government bills that committed Canada to abiding by the terms of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, required that judges be trained in sexual assault law, and changed the law around assisted dying.
A new holiday, fewer barriers to assisted dying, relaxed gambling laws, and easier organ donations were part of the legal legacy left behind by MPs of the 43rd Parliament when they adjourned for the summer last week, possibly for the last time.
