Canada ‘late in the game’ passing UNDRIP law, says Lametti, urging quick passage in Senate

According to one Cree Parliamentarian, Senators have been given ‘inadequate time’ to offer sober second thought on Bill C-15 with it coming before them in the dying days of the session.
Justice Minister David Lametti, pictured in 2020, tabled legislation last year that cuts the timeframe to two years for an action plan to guide the work for UNDRIP, down from the three years initially proposed in a previous private member’s bill.
While the federal government is not opposed to amending the UNDRIP legislation “in principle,” it’s operating under an urgent timeline to pass Bill C-15 within the waning days of the session, Justice Minister David Lametti told Senators Monday.
