Senate leaders ready to take another crack at COVID-19 committee 

The expected recall of Parliament will give Senators another chance to strike a committee to monitor the government’s crisis response.
Finance Minister Bill Morneau has authority to spend nearly unlimited sums of money without parliamentary approval until at least late April, as the government seeks to contain the damage caused by the spreading novel coronavirus.
Two Senate leaders are proposing a temporary new committee to study the government’s response to the COVID-19 crisis, a week after Senators failed to reach a deal to strike two committees for that purpose during a one-day Senate sitting.
