Ontario Court ruling in favour of feds’ carbon price shows need for national response to curbing emissions, say environmentalists

Environment Minister Catherine McKenna said in May that the Saskatchewan court's ruling in favour of the carbon tax is a 'win for Canadians.' Four out of five judges on Ontario's Court of Appeal have found it constitutional for the federal government to impose a carbon tax on jurisdictions, a decision similar to the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal's from May. Saskatchewan plans to take Ottawa to the Supreme Court of Canada this winter.
The Ontario Court of Appeal’s split decision on the province’s challenge to the federal carbon tax signals that a uniform approach to curb carbon emissions is called for, say experts, while an opponents says the decision is not a "slam dunk" for Ottawa.
