Feds’ process for screening out partisan ads ‘not sufficiently robust,’ auditor general says

The audit found that the government's process for sending ads for external review is driven 'entirely' by how much the advertising campaign was worth, rather than the substance or quality of its message.
Treasury Board President Joyce Murray told reporters on May 7 that her department intends to lower the dollar threshold that triggers an external review for government advertising.
Federal oversight of government ads for partisan messages was “not sufficiently robust” to ensure that Canadians’ tax dollars are not being spent to advance the governing party’s political agenda, according to the auditor general.
