NGOs plan to lobby Senators to nix cross-country tour on environment bill

‘Canadians have been heard on this already,’ say five environmental groups following Bill C-69.
Environment Minister Catherine McKenna introduced Bill C-69 in the House of Commons in February 2018. The bill, currently before the Senate, would change more than 30 existing laws and overhaul the environmental assessment process for energy infrastructure projects, checking off part of a Liberal election promise and an item in her mandate letter from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Five environmental non-profit groups are pushing back against a Conservative proposal to send the Senate Environment Committee on a tour of Canadian cities as part of its study of the government’s sweeping environmental assessment bill, C-69.
