Parties ‘doing more’ to boost awareness of mental health resources, Liberals to hire HR adviser for staffers

The Conservatives have introduced mental health workshops at their semi-annual staff training conferences, and MPs are being taught to recognize the signs of poor mental health.
Open-bar receptions attended by Hill staffers and MPs take place most nights in the spring and fall when the House is sitting. In the summer, the PMO sent a survey to Liberal staffers asking, among other things, about their work-life balance, and if they agreed there’s a drinking culture on the Hill.
The parties with the largest presence on the Hill say they are upping efforts to bring awareness of mental health resources available to political staffers working on Parliament Hill, including the planned hiring of a human resources adviser for Liberal employees.
