Conservative leadership conventions since 1927

At the last leadership convention in 2004, former Magna CEO Belinda Stronach, then-leader of the Canadian Alliance Stephen Harper, and then-Ontario PC minister Tony Clement were the candidates. Mr. Harper won, eventually becoming prime minister for almost a decade, Mr. Clement later became an MP and subsequent minister in Mr. Harper's cabinet and Ms. Stronach later became an MP but crossed the floor to the Liberal Party and served as democratic renewal minister in then-prime minister Paul Martin's cabinet.
