‘It’s kind of surreal,’ Gatineau MP MacKinnon says ‘people are petrified’ in his flooded riding

As of Monday morning, the City of Gatineau said 443 homes and 794 people had been evacuated from the region. On Sunday evening, the federal government advised employees against going to work on Monday if their commute uses the interprovincial bridges between Gatineau and Ottawa, or if they work in federal buildings in Gatineau, as those offices would be closed for the day.
‘You feel like you’re in some sort of science fiction movie,' said Liberal MP Steven MacKinnon, who spent his weekend filling sandbags, and visiting the flooded zones with the army to help get people out of their homes. In his riding, more than 700 residents have been evacuated from their homes.
