Senator pushes Goodale for stopgap CBSA oversight while feds consult public

The RCMP complaints commission could keep tabs on the CBSA for now, giving lawmakers ‘breathing room’ to consider reforms, says Sen. Vern White.
Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale told the Senate National Security and Defence Committee he could not support Senate Liberal Wilfred Moore's bill to create an inspector general to oversee the CBSA because the government had not completed its national security consultation process.
Senators pressed the federal public safety minister to act now to address the lack of oversight for the Canada Border Services Agency during a committee meeting Monday, as the government eases into a consultation process that will delay permanent reforms until at least early next year.
