More than $9.4-billion unspent in last fiscal year, but lapses could be on way out

The government’s total expenses in 2014-15 were just more than $280-billion, the public accounts show.

Federal departments left more than $9.4-billion in spending approved by Parliament unused last year, almost four per cent of available funds, with roughly $2-billion unspent at both the Treasury Board and National Defence and more than $1-billion at Aboriginal Affairs.
