November byelection deck stacked against Ignatieff long before Bevilacqua resigned

Maurizio Bevilacqua, who resigned his federal House of Commons seat to run successfully to be mayor of Vaughan last month, likely decided he had enough of federal politics even before the Liberal leader cut him loose in caucus over his support for stiff new refugee provisions brought in by Immigration Minister Jason Kenney.

 

OTTAWA—The November byelection deck was stacked against Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff well before former Vaughan MP Maurizio Bevilacqua announced he planned to leave the party’s caucus and resign his House of Commons seat in Vaughan, Ont., last month, say some Liberals.
