An in-depth look at third-party spending in the last federal election

Between the 2000 and 2008 general elections, the total number of third parties registered with Elections Canada rose from 49 in 2000 to 63 in 2004 and again to 80 in 2006, but then dropped to 64 in 2008.

The purpose of this piece is to examine the activities of "third parties" in the general federal election of 2008. Voting occurred on Oct. 14 after a campaign of 37 days.
