Federal Conservatives met in Halifax last week and they hope Gomery will still be an issue to blunt the Liberals' public opinion ratings in the next election.
Deputy Conservative Leader Peter MacKay suggests it's time for some provocative action on the softwood lumber issue, although the politically divisive issue was abruptly put on the back-burner after Hurricane Katrina devastated Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama last month.
