An independent Senate serves Canadians better

Under the previous model, Senators affiliated with a party were accountable to a leader and a national caucus. Their legislative behaviour was often shaped by party strategy, electoral considerations, and message discipline. 
Under the previous model, the partisan dynamics of the House of Commons were replicated in the Senate, making it an echo chamber, writes ISG Senator Lucie Moncion.

This year marks 10 years since the appointment of the first independent Senators, a milestone that offers an opportunity to reflect on how the Senate has evolved, and why that evolution matters for Canadians.
