Larry Smith closes another chapter after 15 years in the Senate

At times, Smith says his work as a senator felt a bit like being back on the football field, from learning the ropes as a rookie to playing defence amid the Senate expense scandal.
Larry Smith sat down with The Hill Times in his East Block office on April 15, almost two weeks before his official retirement from the Senate upon his 75th birthday on April 28.

Larry Smith has lived a lot of lives over his 75 years—spanning the worlds of sport, business, media, and politics—and says one lesson throughout has been the importance of focusing on “the good,” and doing the best you can.
