A court challenge has put the Streaming Act on hold—but some U.S. companies are still sending money to Canadian funds, and no one knows why

Several companies are in court fighting a CRTC order that would require all firms with annual revenues over $25-million to allocate five per cent of Canadian revenues to cultural and broadcasting groups that create domestic news and entertainment.
Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications chair Vicky Eatrides. The CRTC has not disclosed whether the expected funding contribution could be upped, should the courts allow the initial order, though Eatrides hinted an increase is 'in the realm of possibility.'

As the North American cultural sector awaits a court ruling that could force American streaming firms to redirect millions of dollars in annual revenue to help produce Canadian content, money has already started to quietly flow to select Canadian funding agencies,
