Defence official says Canadian transiting of Taiwan Strait ‘likely’ to continue

Since the launch of the Indo-Pacific Strategy in late 2022, Canadian warships have sailed through the Taiwan Strait seven times.
HMCS Ville de Québec was the last Canadian warship to sail through the Taiwan Strait in September 2025 alongside Australia's HMAS Brisbane.

A senior Canadian defence official told the House Foreign Affairs Committee that the military will “likely” continue to sail through the Taiwan Strait as part of its operations in the Pacific.
