A credible Canadian approach would protect budgets for nutrition and food security, maintain support for regions facing hunger, and place human rights at the centre of decision-making. 
Prime Minister Mark Carney's government is preparing significant reductions in international assistance, including global health, and has stated the Feminist International Assistance Policy will no longer be the guiding policy framework.

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights says all people have "the right to life, liberty, and security of person," and "the right to a standard of living adequate for their health and well-being, including food."
