Supply management works well for Canadians

The system guarantees an adequate supply of dairy, eggs, turkey, and chicken—held to national health and safety standards—to Canadians at a reasonable price.
As agriculture minister, Heath MacDonald is in charge of policy connected to supply management. MacDonald was appointed to the role on May 13, 2025.

Critics of Canada’s innovative system of supply management, which balances domestic production with domestic consumption, rely on faulty ideology to criticize a model that guarantees food security and reasonably priced dairy, eggs, and chicken to Canadians.
