Canadian police muzzle advocates for peace
It’s fatally dangerous for both freedom and democracy to put the police in charge of dictating the bounds of acceptable political discourse.
The right to peaceful protest is a constitutional guarantee enshrined in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. But from our vantage point as criminal defence lawyers, an unstated “Palestine exception” to the Charter seems to have taken hold.
