A new Canadian ambassador in Germany has been absent from a series of diplomatic appointments announced this summer by Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly.

The nearly year-long wait for a new Canadian ambassador to Germany is the latest instance of a multi-month vacancy at major Canadian embassies around the globe, with a former senior diplomat calling the delay to name a new top diplomat in Berlin “very concerning.”
