The closer the United States gets to the primary season and the 2024 presidential election, the easier it will be for Donald Trump and his flunkies in Congress to dismiss all the legal charges as an exercise in weaponizing the justice system against Trump personally and the GOP in general. The Jim Jordans and Marjorie Taylor Greenes of the world know very well that political speech enjoys a high degree of protection under the First Amendment—even if they conflate hate speech with free speech.
