Iran: an unwinnable war

Iran’s army is about the same size as that of the United States, but it could quickly expand to 10 times that size with volunteers, as it did during the U.S.-backed Iraqi invasion of Iran in 1980-88.
Under Iran's president, Hassan Rouhani, the country cut a deal with the U.S. to put its nuclear ambitions on ice, in exchange for sanctions being lifted. Since the U.S. backed out of the deal, Iran has warned that it may not continue to abide by the terms of the deal.
