Canada’s not ready to take Black History Month off the calendar

Happiness will be the day when we no longer need 'Black History Month' to celebrate the accomplishments of African Canadians, but we're not there yet.
The high commissioners of South Africa, Saint Kitts and Nevis, and Jamaica, Sibongiseni Dlamini-Mntambo, Sherry Tross, and Janice Miller, were among the guests at a Black History Month opening ceremony at Ottawa City Hall on Jan. 26.
Black History Month in Canada has had some recent powerful successes. There’s a growing, greater understanding and appreciation of the intrinsic value of black contributions, in science, business, education, music, sports, and public policy throughout our nation.
