MPs must recognize and accept challenge to provide fair, equitable, harassment-free workplace

Recognizing a challenge is one thing, accepting it is another. The responsibility for the challenge rests with all MPs through their Commons Board of Internal Economy. The path may not be clear, but it does exist. The board must find it, mark it, and maintain it for the benefit of both MPs and their staff.
Every employee is entitled to fair and equitable terms of employment that provide a harassment-free workplace with terms and conditions of employment that also provides them with dignity and respect both as employees and as individuals. Establishing such employment relationships at the House of Commons has unique challenges that require careful balancing that takes into account a number of factors that make the mere application of employment regimes for most employment relationships difficult, if not impossible, writes Steve Chaplin.
