There is an urgent need for statutory, constitutional, and judicial recognition of the right to a healthy environment in Canada. A robust body of evidence demonstrates that our existing approaches to environmental law have not yet succeeded in securing a sustainable future for present and future Canadians. Overall, the Conference Board of Canada ranks the country as 15th out of 17 developed nations in a comparison of accepted indicators of environmental performance.
