Renewal of the Fisheries Act is an opportunity to get Canada’s oldest piece of environmental legislation right. It is an opportunity to return to stories of abundant cod, salmon, trout and walleye supporting vibrant commercial and sport fisheries.
In 2015, a new line was cast when the current prime minister mandated the Fisheries Minister, now Dominic LeBlanc, to review the changes made to the Fisheries Act and work to 'restore lost protections, and incorporate modern safeguards.'
