Feds’ Transportation Modernization Act is an empty shell

While modernizing the Transportation Act is important for all Canadians, the New Democrats believe that this omnibus bill sacrifices consumer rights in the interest of investors.
In 2012, my NDP colleagues tabled a bill that clearly set out the steps for creating a passenger bill of rights, and Transport Minister Marc Garneau even voted in favour of it. Under our plan, passengers who were denied boarding could receive $600 for flights of 3,500 km or more, for example. After two years in power, the Liberals are caving into pressure from big business rather than standing up for passengers’ rights.
