Mental health concerns should not be lost during debate on medical assistance in dying bill

It is critical that amendments to this legislation be done thoughtfully, hand-in-hand with the mental health community. Every line of legislation has the potential to deeply affect people who are at their most vulnerable.
In her speech to Parliament after the government tabled Bill C-14, Health Minister Jane Philpott noted, that many people are 'troubled by the prospect of patients with a psychiatric disorder being eligible for assistance in dying on the basis of psychological suffering alone.'
