Canada and European Union free trade agreement represents ‘a huge opportunity’

International Trade Minister Stockwell Day says if Canada had a free trade agreement right now, there would be an increase in Canadian exports of about $12-billion per year.

TORONTO—Canada and the European Union officially started negotiations for a free trade agreement, signed last week by Prime Minister Stephen Harper and EU President Mirek Topolanek, within the next two years. The EU has a GDP of $19.5-trillion, compared to Canada's $1.6-trillion.
