Senator urges Prime Minister Harper to fill increasing Senate vacancies

Currently, there are 14 Senate vacancies, but there will be 30 vacancies by the end of 2009.

The government says a Liberal Senator's private member's bill that would force the prime minister to make appointments to the Upper Chamber within six months of a vacancy is "unacceptable" and the NDP says the "anachronistic" Senate "has no business telling Parliament anything."
