Visible minorities working in private sector: 13.3 per cent Visible minorities working in federal public service: 8.1 per cent
The Public Service Commission says that between 2000 and 2005, visible minorities comprised, on average, 25 per cent of applications to federal public service jobs, but only 10 per cent were hired.
The private sector is doing better than the federal public service when it comes to hiring visible minorities, especially in the ranks of middle to senior level managers, say Public Service Commission officials.
