Pulitzer Prize-winner Walter Duranty, a reporter in Soviet Russia, annoyed fellow correspondents by filing stories that conspicuously quoted "conversations overheard in the streetcars of Moscow." Duranty neither spoke Russian nor took the streetcar; he travelled by chauffeured limousine.
