‘We’re selling to our allies, but we’re not selling to ourselves’: Canadian defence companies tell Senate National Security Committee

As Ottawa moves ahead with plans to spend $81.8-billion on defence, a Senate committee studying Canada's defence procurement heard from industry representatives that firms are finding it challenging to sell to their own government due to issues with procurement policies.
Roman Shimonov, CEO and founder of Roshel, a Brampton, Ont.,-based global defence company, says the United States buys more from his firm than Canada does.

Canadian defence companies say they are struggling to contract with the federal government due to delays and the cumbersome procurement processes, and are relying on doing more business with other countries than they do with Canada, including with the United States.
