Small NAC soirée previews bigger GGPAA May gala
The seven Canadian arts laureates, including film superstar and philanthropist Ryan Reynolds, and legendary comic and Emmy Award-winning actress Catherine O’Hara, were supposed to receive their commemorative medallions in June 2020 at the usual swanky annual ceremony at Rideau Hall followed by a red-carpet, black-tie gala evening at the NAC’s much larger Southam Hall. However, as with all large gatherings cancelled or delayed due to the pandemic, the 2020 GGPAAs skipped a year to become the 2021 version. But COVID didn't stop creativity, or the desire to share and savour it.

Arming oneself with a box of popcorn and a glass of white wine is not a bad way to spend a Friday evening watching TV. Countless Canadians have been doing something similar during the seemingly endless COVID-19 pandemic.
