Israel envoy announces departure, welcomes free trade agreement

A bill to modernize the Canada-Israel Free Trade Agreement, first signed in 1997, received royal assent on May 27.

It was a bittersweet evening as Canada and Israel celebrated 70 years of diplomatic ties. Ambassador Nimrod Barkan announced his upcoming retirement from the post, but also feted a revised free trade agreement between the two countries getting one step closer to implementation.
