Broad scope needed for Canada’s upcoming Athena SWAN program, say stakeholders

The program, which was originally conceived in the United Kingdom, is meant to boost diversity in the STEM research ranks. Canada's program will be broader, incorporating both colleges and universities, tracking a variety of equity groups, and including all disciplines, rather than just STEM.
Colleges and Institutes Canada president and CEO Denise Amyot said she was pleased that colleges were to be included in Canada's Athena SWAN program, as many do applied research. Ms. Amyot said that those involved in putting the program together invited her to participate from the start.
