The funeral for longtime Liberal MP Mauril Bélanger was held on Saturday, August 27 in the packed-out Notre-Dame Cathedral in Ottawa. Mr. Bélanger served as an MP for more than 20 years, but his life was cut short after being diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), or Lou Gehrig's Disease, a little more than nine months ago. He was perhaps best known for his work to change the lyrics of Canada's national anthem to make it gender-neutral. (The Hill Times Photograph by Sam Garcia)
